Syntheway has updated DAL Flute VSTi to v2.1, a virtual woodwind instrument combining multi-samples of real flutes with a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engine. Offers control over several parameters allowing you to sculpt new and interesting sounds.

What's new in version 2.1:

Changes:
- Added the Shakuhachi, a Japanese end-blown flute with 8 presets including natural and synthetic sounds.
- Some changes in the graphical interface.
- Minor adjustments have been made to the default settings.

Fixed bugs:
- Small bug fixes.

DAL Flute Virtual Woodwind VST main features:

- Hybrid Synthesis that combines sample-playback engine with native DSP processing.
- Powerful multi-mode filters, envelopes, and LFOs give a wealth of creative possibilities.
- Flute Selector: Normal, Bright, Pan Flute (Panpipe) and Shakuhachi modes.
- 32 presets redesigned in a wide range of styles: 8 for each mode > Normal, > Bright, > Pan and > Shakuhachi.
- Hybrid Method combines mastered multi-samples, normalized and noise-reduced. Based on PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) recordings of real flutes. Full length sustain samples, no loops (natural decay), stored in 16 bits and 44.100 KHz and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engine.

Synapse Audio Software has announced that DUNE has been updated to version 1.2

Synapse Audio Software has announced that DUNE has been updated to version 1.2. This important update introduces the Michael Kastrup signature soundset, adding more than 100 fresh patches to Dune. The patches can be found in bank C. The update is free to all registered users and can be downloaded from the service area.

Additional changes:

■Improved VCO quality for the classic sawtooth and square oscillators, giving an even more transparent, analog sound.
■Modulation and Pitch bend wheel now respond more smoothly.
■Engine system introduced, which guarantees that any project made with any version of Dune always sounds the same, regardless of installed upgrades.
■The engine version currently in use is displayed when clicking on the DUNE logo. Open a new instance of Dune to start with the current, latest engine.
■Modulation Matrix has row numbers now.
■Pitch Bend Up/Down wasn't visually updated in some hosts when loading a project, fixed.
■[Windows] In Cubase 5 64-bit, Dune could crash during initialization- fixed.
■[Mac OS X] The Audio Unit now uses 20-30% less CPU than previously.
■[Mac OS X] Modulation matrix destination menus have better and more logical ordering.
Note that all Orion and SynthPack users may still upgrade to Dune for just $99 instead of $139, but only until 31st December 2010.

CyberStep has announced KDJ-ONE

CyberStep has announced KDJ-ONE, which is described as "a first of its kind DAW touchscreen smartbook featuring an advanced synthesizer, sequencer, and multitrack audio editing with ACIDized WAV support". CyberStep, Inc. will be exhibiting the KDJ-ONE at the NAMM Show 2011 (January 13th – 16th, 2011, Anaheim Convention Center, CA, USA), booth #1570, Hall E. KDJ-ONE's prototype will be available in the booth.

Built-in speakers, mic, WLAN, and lithium battery make KDJ-ONE a completely portable and wireless handheld production environment. Additionally, a high precision vibration system adds unique force feedback to your music creating experience. KDJ-ONE can also be used as a VST instrument, or a controller for other DAW software.

The KDJ-ONE features combination of multi-touch screen, keypad, and jog dial allows for a fluid and intuitive control system unlike that of any existing hardware or software. It runs Intel MeeGo Handset Edition as its OS, and supports all of MeeGo's features including web browser, Skype, media player, and more. This new digital audio workstation is built-in KDJ2 Synth features 10 synthesis algorithms, 20 effects, 7 filters, and 4 modulation units including step modulation.

Further features include ACID formatted samples may be loaded directly into KDJ-ONE's audio tracks and time-stretched just as in ACID; likewise, patterns created with the KDJ-ONE may be exported directly to ACIDized WAV format. The 6 track pattern sequencer includes automation/motion sequencing, loop recording, step recording, piano roll, and all other standard sequencer features.

The KDJ-ONE also features a Unique Song Mode that allows DJ-style mixing of two patterns in real time and may be used as a VST instrument via built-in wireless LAN; internal settings and data are also editable from the computer. The high precision "QW" vibration system sends vibrations from your music directly to your fingertips, adding a whole new element of force feedback to your music production experience; the vibration system even works with KDJ's built-in games.
